Getting Ready to Start Preschool

We know starting school for your young child can be a scary idea. That's why it is important that parents begin to have conversations with their child before enrolling. You want to let them know what to expect. Let them know they will have lots of fun and there will be time to learn and listen to the teachers and time to run, play and climb. They will sit at the table and eat meals with their friends and teachers, and they will have rest time where they will lay or sit quietly on their bed.  Let them know they will go to the bathroom a couple times during the day and practice handwashing, using soap to make bubbles on the hands and use water to rinse their hands. Practice buttoning and zipping to make handling clothes during bathroom time easier.
Remember starting in a new place with new people can be scary and it is not uncommon for children to cry the first day or even the first week. Parents are encouraged to give hugs and say good-bye during drop off to help make the transition short. Parents are always welcomed to call and check on their child during the day or message the teacher.
There are many books available at the library to read to your child about starting school and videos on YouTube to watch to help with the morning transition.
